Fish balls to Russia
The tradition-steeped cannery Vesteraalens believes they can find new markets for their Norwegian specialties and are pushing hard to give Russians a taste of their fish balls (fiskeboller).
“Fish balls are a typical Scandinavian product and unknown in Russia. But they are relatively cheap and in our view are well suited to Russian tastes,” Vesteraalens sales chief Oddbjørg Bollvåg told weekly newspaper Fiskeribladet.
Just before Christmas a sample shipment of 4,000 cans was sent to Murmansk and Moscow. Vesteraalens has already established a large and stable export market in Russia for another Norwegian staple, canned cod liver.The ad campaign is now in production with the theme “Eat my Norwegian Balls, Ruskies”
