Denpasar, Bali — Sweden’s delegation in Bali, in an effort to stay true to their cause, has just started their long journey home: a combination of biking, hiking and boat rowing that should have them back in Sweden by 2009. “You might expect the French or Italian deligation to fly, but we’re serious environmentalists,” said Tomas Eklund.
“Of course we’re biking,” said delegate Elin Borsen, “Why would we fly half way around the world to attend an environmental meeting that we could have easily stayed home and followed with a live web connection?”
The delegation only took nine months to reach Bali overland, but expedition leader Stig Hanson thought the pace was a bit rushed and wants to make sure there’s time for sightseeing in Kazakhstan on the return trip.
